Fresh Cranberries Milkshake Recipe

Cranberries are filled with healthy nutrients such as Vitamin C, fiber, manganese, Vitamin K, Vitamin E and phytonutrients such as Phenolic acid, Proanthocyanidins (say what?), Anthocyanins, Flavonoids and Triterpenoids while being very low on calories.

” The vast majority of phytonutrients presented in this chart have been studied for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties, and in many cases the results have been impressive. Equally important in the cranberry research has been the finding that isolated phytonutrients in cranberry do not account for the same degree of health benefit as phytonutrients taken as a complete, synergistic group. Cranberries have been shown to protect against urinary tract infection (UTI), act as anti-inflammatory, offer immune support, cardiovascular benefits, antioxidant protection, anti cancer benefits, digestive tract benefits and some blood pressure lowering benefits.

Oh, wow! that is what I call a super-food!

“Cranberries retain their maximum amount of nutrients and their maximum taste when they are enjoyed fresh and not prepared in a cooked recipe. That is because their nutrients including vitamins, antioxidants, and enzymes—are unable to withstand the temperature (350°F/175°C) used in baking.”

After researching the above I decided to try and consume cranberries fresh. But how? cranberries are just too sour for my liking. I decided to try the following milkshake recipe to combine the power of cranberries with the health benefits of coconut shake. It was yum and gave me an immediate energy boost. Try it out for yourselves!

INGREDIENTS: (serves 2-4)

1 cup fresh/frozen cranberries

1/2 cup coconut milk (mine wash pretty thick)

1-2 cups of milk (I use organic milk)

3 tbs sugar (can be substituted for honey or agave syrup)

blend, blend, blend in a blender and serve!

* For maximum antioxidant effect you can add Matcha. I put Matcha in almost every shake I make. I am going to do post about matcha soon.
