Cavalcade of Lights – Toronto 2015

Mark the official start of the holiday season at the 49th annual Cavalcade of Lights celebrationpresented by Great Gulf.
This holiday tradition at Nathan Phillips Square features the first illumination of Toronto’s official Christmas Tree, performances by some of Canada’s top musical talent, a spectacular fireworks show and skating parties.
Skating at the Nathan Phillips Square ice rink continues all season long. Skate rentals are available on-site.

Zero Gravity Circus An aerial hoop artist achieves feats of exacting high-flying precision and aerial contortion, completing the transformation of a modest suspended hoop into a bewitching instrument of acrobatic prowess.
6:45 pm Audience sing-a-long with the Toronto Childrens’ Chorus
The Nathaniel Dett Chorale Canada’s first professional choral group dedicated to Afrocentric music of all styles, including classical, spiritual, gospel, jazz, folk, and blues. Featuring talent that stretches beyond the traditional expectations of a classical chamber choir, The Chorale perform all styles and genres of music as appropriate to the traditions of the African Diaspora. They had the unique privilege of performing as part of 2013 U.S. presidential inauguration
Toronto Children’s Chorus, now in its ninth season under Artistic Director Elise Bradley, the chorus has won many competitions and represented Toronto on 27 international and four national tours. The Toronto Children’s Chorus is internationally recognized for the consistently high standard of its performances and recordings, and for its uniquely challenging and eclectic treble repertoire that spans diverse cultures, languages, traditions and musical genres.
Crystal Shawanda Born on the Wikwemikong Reserve on Canada’s Manitoulin Island, Crystal immersed herself in the music of her heritage and dreams. Having stormed country music charts in 2008, she played the 2013 U.S. presidential inauguration, and won a 2013 Juno Award. Crystal’s new album, The Whole World’s Got the Blues, pulls from roots, blues, and Americana music to tell stories and weave spells with entrancing honesty.
Beverley Mahood is a country music singer-songwriter and television host in Canada. Beverley emigrated from Belfast to Canada as a child. She is formerly part of the all-female trio Lace, produced by renowned producer, David Foster. From 2004 to 2005, she co-hosted the Citytv Vancouver morning show, Breakfast Television and then named to co-host CMT Canada’s flagship show, CMT Central. She starred as the anchor judge on the series CMT Chevy Karaoke Star.
Sean Jones has been singing since his formative years in high school, when he joined In Essence the R&B group renowned for their five-part vocal harmonies. In Essence was signed to BMG Music and went on to win Best R&B Recording at the Junos and R&B Video of the Year at the Much Music Video Awards. From there, Sean embarked on a solo career that took him in the direction of his passion, classic soul.
The evenings Music Director, Sekou Lumumba, is a Canadian musician based in Toronto who has been drummer for such artists and groups as The Illegal Jazz Poets Thornley, Edwin & the Pressure, Goodbye Glory, Ivana Santilli, Kardinal Offishall, Serena Ryder, 24-7 Spyz and Bedouin Soundclash.

SloanToronto-based rock/power pop quartet from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Throughout their 20-year tenure, Sloan has released 11 LPs, two EPs, a live album, a greatest hits album and more than 30 singles. The band has received nine Juno Award nominations, winning one. Their albums have made them one of the most popular Canadian bands of all time.
DJ Serious With nearly 20 years of experience spanning European and domestic tours coupled with two critically lauded releases, Dim Sum in 2000 and Cold Tea in 2006. Juno Award winner DJ Serious has numerous production credits including a “who’s who” of rap music. DJ Serious is one of Canada’s foremost “hip hop” producers.
