When do different denominations celebrate Easter and Passover in 2014?
Catholics are celebrating Good Friday on April 18th in 2014 and Easter Monday on April 21st.
Holy Week is an Orthodox holiday that takes place on the last week of lent, and one week before Easter. This year Holy Week falls on the week of April 13th.
The holiday starts off with Palm Sunday (April 13th), and includes Holy Thursday (April 17th), Good Friday (April 18th), and Holy Saturday (April 19th).
Holy Week does not include Easter Sunday which falls on April 20th.
Passover begins this year in the evening of Monday, April 14th and ends in the evening of Tuesday, April 22nd.
Passover is not a public holiday in Canada. However, some Jewish businesses and organizations may be closed or offer a reduced level of service over the Passover period.
There are several traditions for this time of the year. Egg painting is very popular and easy to do.
Egg paint kits can be purchased in stores, but you can also dye hard boiled eggs using a jar of beet juice оr food colors. Old-fashioned and natural way to dye is to boil the eggs together with onion peels and rub them with vegetable oil to give an extra shine.
Family get-together are also part of the Easter weekend. After Christmas and Thanksgiving the Easter weekend meal is the third largest meal nationwide.
Petting zoos and Farms are popular around Easter, where kids get a chance to pet and feed bunnies and other animals, and to go for Easter Egg Hunts.
